Asparagus Cochinchinensis

With a mildly bitter-sweet flavor and a cold nature, Asparagus Cochinchinensis (Tian Men Dong) enters the lung and kidney meridians, where it nourishes kidney Yin while clearing lung heat. It is particularly beneficial for conditions of Yin deficiency with excessive internal heat or for rough, cracked skin due to kidney weakness. When applied externally, it helps boost skin hydration, alleviate dryness and sensitivity, and impart a refined, smooth texture. Although it is similar to Mai Dong, Tian Men Dong differs by predominantly entering the kidney channel rather than the lung channel. Despite its cold nature, it is considered to embody a Yang quality within Yin—as evidenced by the famed ancient “Tian Dong Wine” used for beauty and vitality.
