A member of the lily family, Polygonatum Kingianum (Dian Huang Jing) is characterized by its sweet taste and neutral nature, entering the lung, spleen, and kidney meridians. It is believed to tonify the spleen, moisten the lungs, boost Qi, and nourish Yin. Celebrated as a superior herb in the Shennong Ben Cao Jing, Huang Jing is sometimes called the “herb of the sun” or “celestial manna.” The Ben Cao Gang Mu records that Huang Jing “tonifies the middle, benefits Qi, dispels wind-dampness, calms the internal organs, and—with long-term use—lightens the body and extends life without inciting hunger.” Traditional sources further credit it with harmonizing the internal organs, promoting robust muscle and bone marrow, and strengthening Yin. Modern research has confirmed its anti-aging, antioxidant, anti-fatigue, and antiviral effects.
